The Aurelio Quarter is located along the initial stretch of the Via Aurelia, from which it takes its name. When Rome was founded, this area was inhabited by the Etruscans, while in Republican Rome it had to undergo many reclamations to avoid malaria, using the area mainly as vegetable gardens. Along the ancient Via Aurelia stood several villas, including Villa Floridi and Villa Ferroni, today Abamelek, another green area was the Pineta Sacchetti, with the beautiful Villa Sacchetti, no longer existing. The furnaces in the area, which produced bricks, bricks, and campigiane, grew more and more, especially in Valle Aurelia, an area that was called Valley of Hell. The last of these, the Fornace Veschi, whose structure still exists, closed in 1960. Between 1920 and 1930 the first urban nucleus of the real district began to develop, born to put order in the disordered Borghetto dei Fornaciari, and led to the birth around Porta Cavalleggeri of the first buildings. During this period, the valuable urban agglomeration of Monte del Gallo was also born. Many of the kilns that worked in Valle Aurelia lived in the area, but as many resided in the houses of the nearby Trionfale Quarter. They constituted a social block in itself, which favored the rooting, at the time of the advent of Fascism, of the Arditi del Popolo within themselves. Today the Aurelio is a mainly residential district, where there are also, especially due to its proximity to the Vatican, numerous religious institutions.
